Boston Harborwalk Run to Castle Island and a SoWa Health + Wellness Day Pass
Updated October 3, 2026
Leave SoWa Health + Wellness in the South End, follow the Harborwalk along Fort Point Channel and the Seaport waterfront, run the South Boston shore to Castle Island, loop Pleasure Bay and come back through Southie.
Boston's Harborwalk traces the waterfront for miles, and its southern stretch makes a long salt air run. From the South End's converted warehouses you cross into Fort Point, follow the channel and swing by the Seaport piers. South Boston streets then lead to Castle Island, where a granite star fort has guarded the harbor since before the Civil War. The Pleasure Bay causeway is car free and flat, with jets descending toward Logan overhead. One paid visit at SoWa Health + Wellness covers the training floor, a towel and the sauna. Your bag can wait in a locker while you run, but check at the front desk first, because some gyms allow only one entry per visit.

The run: Harborwalk to Castle Island and Pleasure Bay

Salt water is beside you for most of the distance, crossings are few, and the Pleasure Bay causeway feels like a seaside promenade minutes from downtown.

Head north on Harrison Avenue, then east on the South Bay Harbor Trail and cross Fort Point Channel on the Broadway bridge. Follow the Harborwalk up the channel's east bank, then run behind Fan Pier and past the ICA. Take Northern Avenue by the Fish Pier, cross the Reserved Channel on Summer Street and weave through City Point to Marine Park. Circle Fort Independence on Castle Island and loop the Pleasure Bay causeway, then head west on the Harborwalk past the M Street, L Street and Carson beaches. Climb through Dorchester Heights, where a monument marks the 1776 cannons that drove the British out, and return over the West Fourth Street bridge to the South End. Wind off the water can be stiff around Castle Island, so check its direction and run the exposed stretch into it while your legs are fresh. Castle Island has public restrooms, and drinking fountains near Sullivan's.
