How to Spend 3 Hours in Chicago: The Bean, Maggie Daley Park and a Rooftop
Updated October 2, 2026
Three hours in Chicago is enough for the Bean, a stroll over the BP Bridge into Maggie Daley Park and a drink in the Chicago Athletic Association's Game Room or on Cindy's rooftop.
If you have an afternoon gap between meetings or a few hours before a dinner reservation, Millennium Park and the block across Michigan Avenue deliver the most Chicago per step. See yourself warped in Anish Kapoor's mirrored sculpture, follow Frank Gehry's winding steel footbridge into a playful lakeside park most visitors never reach, then cross back to a restored 1893 athletic club with a vintage game room and a rooftop bar overlooking the park and the lake.

Anish Kapoor's polished sculpture weighs 110 tons and measures 66 feet long by 33 feet high, and its twelve-foot arch lets you walk underneath for a funhouse view of yourself repeated overhead. Locals simply call it the Bean, and the curved surface pulls the Michigan Avenue towers and the sky into one liquid picture. As of October 2026, it is free to visit in a park that is open daily from early morning until late evening.
Tip: Come when the light is low and the plaza is quieter, and stand on the side away from Michigan Avenue to catch the skyline bending across the steel.

NaviTime to head out from Cloud Gate for Maggie Daley Park. It's a 6 minute walk if you leave now. Here's the link
Walk past the Pritzker Pavilion bandshell and cross Frank Gehry's BP Bridge, a curving ribbon of brushed steel that snakes over Columbus Drive, to reach this 20-acre park on the site of the old Daley Bicentennial Plaza. Rolling hills hide a climbing wall, mini golf, picnic groves and a looping skating ribbon that becomes an ice path in winter, all with the skyline rising behind. As of October 2026, entry is free and the grounds open every day.
Tip: Linger at the top of the bridge, where the curve frames the towers of Michigan Avenue, then cut back through Millennium Park toward the Athletic Association.

Henry Ives Cobb designed this clubhouse on Michigan Avenue, which opened in 1893 as a private athletic club and reopened to the public as a hotel in 2015. Walk in to see the Game Room, the club's original billiards room, now a walk-in bar and games hall, then ride up to Cindy's, the rooftop restaurant and bar that looks out over Millennium Park to the lake. It is the most atmospheric drink within a block of the Bean.
Tip: The Game Room takes walk-ins, but Cindy's can fill up around sunset, so head to the roof first if the view is your priority.
