Houston Memorial Park Lieberman Trail Loop and a Free City Gym Shower

Updated October 10, 2026

Quarter mile markers line the Seymour Lieberman Trail, and this loop of about 5.2 km starts at the city's Memorial Fitness Center on Arnot Street, crosses East Memorial Loop Drive and makes one full lap of the trail around Memorial Park Golf Course, ending through the Clay Family Eastern Glades past Hines Lake. The fitness center has showers, and the city has waived its fees.

The Memorial Park Conservancy calls the Seymour Lieberman Trail the most used space in all of Memorial Park. The pedestrian only loop of about three miles circles the Memorial Park Golf Course, the tennis center and the Clay Family Eastern Glades, shaded by tall trees, with mile markers about every quarter mile and water fountains and restrooms along the way. The Memorial Fitness Center, run by Houston Parks and Recreation, sits just across East Memorial Loop Drive on Arnot Street. As of October 2026, the city has waived all fees there, including the daily and shower fees, though you need to register online first. It is closed on Sundays. Ask staff whether a locker is free, so your bag can wait there while you run. Check with staff before you set off, because some passes are good for one entry and you'll want to get back in for the shower. Run early in the day, when it's cooler, and carry water, since Houston's humidity makes even a mild morning feel warm. As of October 2026, Bounce lists Houston luggage storage from $3.95 a day for anything you can't carry.

The run: Seymour Lieberman Trail lap from the Memorial Fitness Center

Route map of a 5.2 km loop from the Memorial Fitness Center around Memorial Park Golf Course on the Seymour Lieberman Trail, past Hines Lake and back on the Outer Loop

More than four fifths of the line is on the Lieberman itself, a soft gravel loop with shade, water fountains and restrooms, and the lake and lawns of the Eastern Glades come near the end. Bikes aren't allowed on it, but it is busy at dawn and after work, so keep to the right and pass on the left.

Distance
5.2 km (3.2 mi)
Start
Memorial Fitness Center

Leave the Memorial Fitness Center by its parking lot, cross East Memorial Loop Drive at Arnot Street and join the Seymour Lieberman Trail by the McConn ballfields. Turn right and run the loop counterclockwise: north past the softball fields and the Memorial Park Tennis Center, where the stretching deck has water fountains and an outdoor shower, west along the north edge of the golf course, south down its west side, then east near Memorial Drive over three ravine bridges. Mile markers come about every quarter mile. In the Clay Family Eastern Glades, the trail passes Hines Lake and the South Lakeside Pavilion to the Promenade Pavilion. There the line leaves the Lieberman for a concrete path along the east edge of the Glades lawn, crosses a park drive and follows the Outer Loop trail north past its zero mile sign, then crosses Arnot Street back to the fitness center. That shortcut skips about 0.4 km of the Lieberman around the lawn and keeps the lap to 5.2 km. Big events such as the Houston Corporate 5K take over parts of the Eastern Glades and crowd the trail, and parking lots and trails close for races and maintenance, so check Park Updates and Alerts on the Memorial Park Conservancy's Visit page before you go.
